THE KILL ORDER BY JAMES DASHNER
“We just need to keep our hands clean and away from our nose and mouth. Wear a mask as much as possible.” But I am not letting this sweet thing out of my sight until…She didn’t finish, and Mark was glad for that.
The above lines from the book The Kill Order stunned me when I read them. These lines also reflect our current situation to an extent. It seems whatever the world is going through currently is the replica of those lines stated in the book. The book is a prequel of The Maze Runner trilogy and it provides the backstory to the preceding book. How the sun flare broke out and started impacting people and subsequently the whole globe. People were running around wanting to escape the surging heat and burning sun. The deafening screams and cries had resulted in chaos. People half-melted, their clothes burnt, were lying lifeless on the ground, Mark and Tina witnessed it all before everything changed. On top, the spread of the virus was another concern. It was shocking for Mark and Alec to know the sinister truth behind the spread. The spread of the virus was a deliberate attempt to wipe out a part of the population to establish a balance between the resources and population as the world was running out of resources after the onset of sun flare. So PFC ( post flare coalition) together with PCC ( population control committee) decided to wipe out a small section of the population to save the extinction of the human race by releasing the virus in certain locations recommended by PCC. The virus attacked the brain, made them crazy, and eventually killed them. The turbulence and turmoil, the city was going through, Mark and Trina watched it all. But some kids were found immune to the viruses. Two of them were Deedee (Teresa) and Thomas, who later became the protagonists of the preceding novels. As soon as Mark and Alec realized that the girl is immune to the virus and her life mattered for the safety of mankind they risk their lives and take the girl to the people who matter.
Needless to say, like other novels of the series this one is fast-paced and action-packed too. An enthralling storyline makes it an interesting read.
