Book Review-The Death Cure By James Dashner

This is the third and last book in the Maze Runner trilogy. I enjoyed reading all three of them but if I have to rate them, I will do it in the same order in which books fall.

The first two were no doubt amazing but Death Cure couldn’t mesmerize me as much as the other two did. The beginning was good but it started falling flat in the middle and ended ambiguously and abruptly. I was expecting the ‘end’ to be more exciting and satisfying. Though climax was action-packed and adventurous and gave a cinematic feeling. But nonetheless, I enjoyed it from cover to cover. The book witnessed a lot of movement in my life that delayed my reading and took almost a month to finish which I was hoping to finish within a week.

Thomas and group’s exit to safe heaven from Scorch Trials, in anticipation of finding a cure, went futile and worthless when the Rat Man(who managed and controlled WICKED)announced that they have not found the cure of the Flare(virus) yet and are still in the last round of proceedings of finding one. And for that Thomas and a couple of people had been shortlisted to go on with. They were immune to the Flare and a cure will be made by completing the blueprint from their mind. Thomas didn’t believe a word Rat man told him. Yet another lie, Thomas reflected. Rage welled up inside him and he knew Rat man couldn’t be trusted anymore. Thomas and his friends were exasperated and wanted to get away from all these trials and stuff. They managed to escape from WICKED and reach Denver, which seemed less impacted by the Flare initially but soon was on the verge of collapsing. Thomas got rid of the swipe( a chip fitted into the skin through which WICKED controlled his actions) with one of the scientists who had worked with WICKED at some point in time. In due course of time, he knew that WICKED is gathering immunes from the city and preparing for another trial. This infuriated Thomas and he hated WICKED more and more. He joined hands with another group named Right Arm whose goals were same as Thomas’s. Denver was almost on the verge of getting succumbed by the Flare and many people infected by viruses known as Cranks had past Gone. And rest of them were being captured by Rat Man for another sinister trial. Some of Thomas’s friends also have been made captive. Now Thomas’s only aim was to save immunes from the grip of Rat Man and thus save the human race and humanity.

Thomas and group(which always supported Thomas to uphold his decisions) successfully attack the WICKED headquarter, save all the immunes from the clutches of Rat Man, and take them to a far, lush, and green land untouched and unharmed by Flare and full of vibrant life. Though I wished Newt and Teresa being the two main characters of the series would have survived too. As Teresa died, the stains on her character also disappeared and Thomas realized that she was always on his side and everything she did to save his life. Overall it is an amazing series and I enjoyed every bit of it.
